As the Chinese government faces memories of threats to its authority at Tiananmen Square, the power of new communication channels, such as Twitter, is seen in their neutralization by the powers that be.  The news fails to be run by Xinhua, the news organization of the communist state. Hong Kong, where there is far more free speech than mainland China, and where the anniversary of the 1989 uprising is well-celebrated, turns away one of the participants who flew to the southeastern Asian city to mark 20 years after the protests.
