Link: How not to remember a giraffe’s life

Dismembered giraffe tossed in dumpster | Albuquerque, N.M. | KRQE News 13

“A zoo staff member tossed the dismembered body of Kashka, a giraffe who was euthanized last week after a debilitating leg injury, into a dumpster on zoo property.”

How we treat our fellow earth denizens in death reflects upon how we treated them in life. Wrap gold up in coal, and all you’ll remember is the soot. Then again, zoos, which I’ve enjoyed attending, are exploitative, so maybe the discomfort here is that we’re being reminded that such animal enclosures turn living creatures into products for our amusement that, once expired, are thrown away.
