Picket line outside Chinatown restaurant

Restaurant workers protest at Golden Bridge Restaurant. Chinatown, New York, N.Y. Aug. 31, 2009.

A representative of the restaurant workers union, Tony Tsai, said that the demonstration was a response to punitive actions taken against employees following Golden Bridge Restaurant’s official conversion to a union shop.

That’s all I got. I know, I know. Where’s the response from the owner? Where are the details of the alleged mistreatment? Where’s the color, you soulless stenographer? And my god, man, can’t you even move this story forward?

Not on this day off. I stopped to learn more about the protest as I emerged from my neighborhood Duane Reade. Laundry day put a time limit on my investigation, I still needed to make it to the gym, and my thumbs are still too slow to transform an Android-powered G1 into an effective note-taking device.

However, I am fascinated by the pink glow washing over the woman with the same-colored sign.

If you’re still interested, picketing outside this eatery seems to be a tradition:

  1. Restaurant workers return after long, tense dispute
  2. Silver Palace or Golden Bridge, dispute is about jobs and green
