Defensive URL claiming

It’s exhausting. So many services to make my life easier are just making it harder. This one, old to you but new to me: http://gplus.to/

Great; it allows me to share a short URL with “hellotumo” at the end that links to my Google+ profile. I didn’t feel hugely compelled to grab this, but I did want to snag “hellotumo” at the end of this particular URL before someone else did (as if there was a horde of site sitters waiting to attack). Now where else do I need to do this… Yahoo? Bing? Outlook email? Twitter (done). Facebook (done). LinkedIn (done). Auggggggghhhh. Is this called “maintaining your brand“? The Internet is changing daily living into burger surveillance.
