The war on the American people

I used to worry about the price of eggs. Now I worry that writings like this one will be cited when men wearing masks abduct me on behalf of a federal government that has declared war on its people and the values that made the United States something worth fighting to make better. Not because I’m an important figure. Because, like all cancers, the fascist hatred and corruption of the Trump regime, unless stopped, will eventually spread to infect every cell of active or passive resistance, no matter its size or impact on the body politic. One day, the only way to escape this regime’s violence will be to proactively state your allegiance. If you don’t, you will be removed via death, detention, or stunningly unjust deportation, no matter the color of your skin or collection of citizenship papers you possess.

It took some work to push me into a collection of thoughts that still sounds unbelievable to me, still sounds like paranoia, still feels like a difficult perspective to hold when I wander through my everyday life.

Yet the U.S. president is using the military against Americans. Forget the nuanced legal justifications. Forget the details about the so-called acceptable range of duties the Marines and stolen National Guard soldiers can operate within. The sitting U.S. president placed troops in an American city with zero justification and against the wishes of the state’s and city’s leaders. This is not order. This is demagogue producing additional crises on top of crises he initiated by unleashing the unlawful and cruel abduction of people off the streets by masked criminals pretending to be legit because they are following orders released by criminals who have access to the power of the government.

War has been declared on the American people by a corrupt president and his regime of sadistic buffoons intent on destroying everything this flawed country has built. You can argue why for hours: so they can loot the country, so they can thrill at the power they’ve accumulated, so they can be at the top of the heap when a new region-based global order replaces the one we have now. But the reasons don’t matter right now as much as the result: We are under attack.

A corrupted federal government unleashing vast violence, grifting, lying, enforced ignorance, and injustice will only worsen all the underlying problems we face as a people. You cannot pretend away the environmental crisis. Killing education to make people dumber will only make them less able to handle what is facing us now. Abandoning science is abandoning the sharpest weapon we have to fight chaos. Destroying free speech is destroying the feedback you need to be a living, adaptable, and peaceful society.

War serves no one except the people in power who manipulate all of us to fight each other rather than focus on the theft and abuse committed by those perverting their temporary possession of the word “leader.”

We must build a new world. But not like this.
