Link: HBO GO-It-Alone? | MIT Technology Review

ESPN did just this. ISPs distinguish themselves by offering deals for specific premium content to customers. Get ABC Internet, and you get HBO Go for $X more. Hmm. Will this help the quality of web service in the USA? It’s like having to go to a certain store for Oreo cookies when I just want to buy them anywhere. The store could have terrible customer service, yet get my money anyway. That’s the problem with pipe companies being the content-in-those-pipes companies: too much control over the ecosystem. But that’s where the most money is, eh?

Blogging from phone for the heck of it.
